Which One to Choose?
Choosing lawn type goes beyond selecting which turf grass is suitable to the growing zone and climate where you live.
What’s the difference?
Seeding is growing grass by sowing seeds in place – in the area where they’ll grow.
Sodding is transplanting squares or blocks of rooted turf grass to your lawn. The squares are held together by the roots of the grass, so you essentially lay them as you would like.
Main difference is that at the sod farm, the fields are professionally managed with weed controls and fertilizer programs that ensure a weed-free healthy lawn. You can save money by seeding your own lawn, but if you do so, be prepared for extra maintenance and weed control.

Advantages
- Less expensive than sodding
Disadvantages
- Lawns take longer to mature and become established ( 3-5 months )
- Shorter period for successful seeding ( Sepetmber – Otobomber – April -May )· Rainfall can erode bare ground before seeds germinate and form roots.
Seeds are vulnerable to hungry birds
- Daily attention especially for the first 15 days which are critical.
- Ready for use ( after 3-4 months )
Sodding a lawn
Advantages
- No exposed seeds for hungry birds to eat
- Quicker establishment time – an „instant lawn“
- Sod can be laid almost whole year.
Safe result
- The green space can be given for use in 15 days.
- Quicker recover from damages.
- Less chemical sprays
Disadvantages
- More expensive than seeding
